They loved the graphic arts and the ease of understanding the complicated love affair between Romeo and Juliet. Kudo's~! I hope you do Macbeth next. Based on the title, one has expectations. Well, this book throws a serious curve ball at the old Romeo and Juliet story we all know and love.
The hilarious, contemporary spin Wes and Judy Whitmore bring to the story line is refreshing and very entertaining. It's short, fun and lighthearted. Great read for short flight!
You wouldn't think that a comic book version of the play would do justice to it. But this book does indeed capture the spirit and emotional impact of Romeo and Juliet. It certainly invites young people into Shakespeare's literary world, and encourages them not to be intimidated by the Bard's iambic pentameter verse. It's easy to see this book as the beginning of a series for younger readers, and a valuable teaching tool for teachers.
